Fiberglass Acoustic Ceiling Tiles for Intercity High-Speed Railway Station Waiting Hall

Project Challenge

The waiting hall of this intercity high-speed railway station is a large-volume, high-footfall public space with complex noise sources including passenger conversations, rolling luggage, broadcast announcements and mechanical equipment noise. The original conventional ceiling had weak sound absorption capacity, resulting in heavy reverberation and unclear public address announcements, which reduced passenger travel experience and affected information transmission efficiency. As a key transportation infrastructure, the project required ceiling materials with the highest Class A fire safety rating, long-term durability and low maintenance performance.

Solution

The entire waiting hall ceiling was replaced with high-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles. The material features inherent Class A fire resistance with zero flame spread and low smoke emission, fully complying with the strictest fire safety codes for public transportation buildings. With an NRC of 0.90–0.95, the interconnected porous structure effectively absorbs complex mixed noise in large public spaces. The tiles also offer excellent sag resistance, moisture stability and mold resistance, maintaining stable performance under long-term high-airflow and high-passenger-flow conditions.

Results

After the renovation, background noise in the waiting hall decreased significantly, and public address announcements became clear and intelligible throughout the space without echo distortion. Passenger waiting comfort improved noticeably. The durable, low-maintenance ceiling system also reduces long-term facility operation and maintenance costs, fully meeting the high-standard construction requirements of modern transportation hub projects.
