
Project Overview
Acoustic upgrade for public areas of a large urban commercial complex with a total floor area of 58,000㎡, covering the central atrium, pedestrian corridors, catering gathering areas and elevator lobbies. The original high ceiling, stone flooring and large glass curtain walls cause long reverberation tails and rapid noise accumulation. During peak passenger flow, crowd conversation, store broadcasts and equipment noise overlap, resulting in poor announcement clarity and an oppressive passenger experience. The property owner requires acoustic materials with Class A fire protection, dust resistance, moisture resistance, and low long-term maintenance costs to adapt to the high-traffic commercial environment.
Solution Deployment
The solution adopts a combined ceiling + wall acoustic treatment system:
- Atrium & main corridor ceilings: Fully paved with high-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles, NRC 0.90–0.95, inherent Class A fire resistance, excellent sag resistance and dust resistance. The interconnected porous structure efficiently absorbs full-spectrum reflected noise in large open spaces, maintaining stable long-term performance in high-traffic, high-dust environments with minimal daily maintenance.
- Catering gathering area ceilings: Fitted with cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels, NRC 0.80–0.90. The dense fiber-cement structure is grease-resistant and moisture-resistant, suitable for catering environments, and the natural texture matches the industrial-style interior of the dining area.
- Elevator hall partial walls: Grooved acoustic panels are arranged to optimize mid-low frequency resonance and further improve sound field uniformity in public areas.
All products meet EN 13501 Class A fire safety standards. The project is constructed in sections during night non-operating hours, covering a total area of 4,700㎡ with a construction period of 31 days.
Project Outcome
Final testing shows the overall background noise of the complex decreases significantly, the intelligibility of public announcements in all areas improves remarkably, and reverberation time reaches the design standard for commercial public spaces. The durable, low-maintenance acoustic system reduces long-term property operation costs, and passes fire protection and acoustic special assessments for commercial buildings.
