Cement-bonded Wood Wool Acoustic Panels | Upscale Restaurant Acoustic Renovation, Oslo, Norway

wood wool acoustic panel

Project Overview

This acoustic renovation project serves a high-end farm-to-table restaurant in central Oslo, Norway. The interior features large hard stone floors, glass partitions and bare plaster walls. During dinner peak hours, overlapping conversation noise creates heavy reverberation; guests struggle to talk normally, and the dining experience is severely affected. The designer required acoustic panels with uniform fine light grey wood wool texture, matching the restaurant’s minimalist natural interior style, and meeting European fire and environmental standards.

Solution Configuration

  • Wall and partial ceiling areas adopt cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels. The panels feature fine, evenly distributed light grey wood wool texture without coarse fibres. The porous structure delivers broadband sound absorption, targeting speech-frequency reverberation inside the dining hall.
  • Local recessed niche sections are fitted with matching wood wool panels to maintain visual consistency and eliminate local acoustic dead zones. All panels pass EN 13501-1 Class A2-s1,d0 fire rating and meet indoor low-emission requirements. Installation was completed during off-hours without disrupting business.

Project Results

Post-installation acoustic testing shows reverberation time reduced from 2.4s down to 1.1s. Background chatter noise is well controlled. Guests can converse comfortably without raising their voices. The fine wood wool panels integrate naturally with the restaurant’s decoration and have passed local building acceptance.
