Project Challenge
This high-end boutique fitness studio offers barre, pilates and small-group strength training classes, targeting a premium client base focused on wellness and experience. The original space with mirrored walls, hard flooring and bare ceilings produced strong echo and reverberation. Instructor cues, background music and equipment noise overlapped, sounding harsh and muddy, which reduced class immersion and instruction clarity. The studio required a refined, soft acoustic solution aligned with its upscale, calming brand aesthetic, not an industrial-looking treatment.
Solution
Full-wall flame-retardant fabric-wrapped acoustic panels were installed in all training studios and the reception lounge area. The high-density acoustic core delivers an NRC rating of 0.85–0.95 for full-frequency sound absorption, eliminating room echo and balancing music and voice clarity. A premium matte fabric in muted earth tones was selected to create a calm, upscale atmosphere that supports the studio’s wellness positioning. All materials meet commercial Class A fire safety standards and low-VOC indoor air quality requirements, suitable for enclosed high-occupancy exercise spaces.
Results
After renovation, class acoustics improved dramatically. Instructor cues are clear and intelligible even over background music, and members report a more immersive, less fatiguing workout experience. The soft, refined fabric finish elevates the studio’s luxury atmosphere, and member retention and private training sign-ups have both increased. The acoustic upgrade has become a key differentiator for the studio in the competitive boutique fitness market.
