Project Challenge
This indoor shooting range and tactical training center hosts recreational shooting, professional certification and law enforcement training. The enclosed concrete bays with hard ballistic surfaces generate extreme peak noise and severe low-frequency reverberation from gunfire. Prolonged exposure damages hearing, and echo distorts range officer commands, creating safety risks. Standard porous acoustic materials cannot withstand high-impact muzzle blast energy or effectively resolve the intense low-frequency standing waves typical of indoor ranges. The facility required a heavy-duty, code-compliant professional acoustic solution.
Solution
A combined system of grooved and perforated resonant acoustic panels with reinforced impact-resistant substrates was installed on the side and rear walls of all shooting lanes. Engineered on the Helmholtz resonance principle, the precision slot-and-hole structure specifically targets the high-intensity 250Hz–1000Hz mid-low frequency noise and standing waves generated by gunfire. Paired with rear air cavities and high-density acoustic fill, the system achieves an overall NRC of 0.90 for robust full-band sound absorption. All panels meet strict Class A fire resistance and impact durability standards, designed for long-term use in high-stress shooting environments.
Results
Post-installation acoustic testing confirmed significant reductions in peak sound pressure levels and overall reverberation within the lanes. Hearing protection effectiveness is improved, range officer commands are clear and intelligible, and shooter accuracy benefits from reduced echo distraction. The facility now meets occupational health and safety noise exposure standards, and can safely host higher-level professional training and competitive events.
