The revised EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) has formally come into force across member states, setting a mandatory path for all new and renovated buildings to achieve zero operational carbon emissions by 2030. For the acoustic building materials sector, this regulatory shift has elevated carbon footprint and full-lifecycle sustainability from optional selling points to core entry requirements for public and commercial construction bidding.

Industry monitoring data shows that low-carbon acoustic product lines, represented by 100% recycled polyester fiber panels and cement-bonded wood wool panels with low-embodied-carbon production processes, have seen a 28% year-on-year increase in tender participation across EU construction projects in the first half of 2026. Such materials not only deliver stable NRC 0.80–0.95 sound absorption performance, but also significantly reduce carbon emissions in the production and end-of-life recycling stages, effectively supporting projects in meeting EPBD carbon accounting targets and green building certification requirements.

Analysts from the European construction materials association point out that as carbon compliance requirements continue to tighten, acoustic material suppliers with complete carbon footprint data, low-carbon production systems and recyclable product systems will gain a clearer competitive advantage in the EU market. The policy-driven shift is expected to continue driving structural growth in the sustainable acoustic materials segment over the next three to five years.
