Project Overview
This project delivers acoustic upgrading for public areas of a 420-key luxury business hotel in downtown Dubai, covering the lobby, all-day dining restaurant, executive lounge and guest corridors. The original high-ceiling space, stone finishes and glass curtain walls create noticeable reverberation during peak hours. Guest conversation, background music and catering equipment noise overlap, resulting in a noisy, oppressive atmosphere that undermines the hotel’s premium positioning. The management required acoustic solutions that preserve the luxury interior aesthetic while delivering measurable noise reduction, and meet Class A fire protection standards for commercial hospitality venues.
Solution Configuration
- Lobby & restaurant ceilings: Full coverage of cement-bonded wood wool acoustic ceiling panels with an NRC rating of 0.80–0.90. The natural textured fibre-cement finish complements the hotel’s modern luxury interior, efficiently absorbing scattered reflected sound across high open spaces without additional decorative treatment, and features grease and moisture resistance for catering environments.
- Executive lounge & guest corridors: High-density fiberglass core fabric wrapped acoustic panels (NRC 0.85–1.0) are applied to feature walls and corridor sides, reducing inter-room sound leakage and creating a calm, premium atmosphere. Custom color matching ensures seamless integration with the interior design scheme.
All materials carry EN 13501 Class A fire certification. The project was constructed in phases during low-occupancy night hours, total construction period 26 days, with no disruption to guest services.
Project Results
Post-completion testing shows peak-hour ambient noise in the lobby drops by an estimated 38%, and reverberation time reaches the recommended standard for high-end hospitality spaces. Guest satisfaction scores for quietness and comfort increase by 32%, and the acoustic materials integrate invisibly with the hotel’s luxury interior aesthetic.
