Project Overview
This acoustic treatment project covers the main research laboratories, equipment rooms and office support areas of a biomedical research center in Sydney, Australia, with a total area of 4,600 ㎡. Precision testing instruments, constant-running ventilation systems and laboratory equipment generate continuous broadband noise. Noise interferes with instrument accuracy and experimental results, and long-term exposure poses occupational health risks to researchers. The cleanroom-grade environment requires acoustic materials that are dust-proof, non-shedding, easy to clean and compliant with Australian laboratory construction standards.
Solution Configuration
- Full laboratory ceiling: High-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles are fully laid, with an NRC rating of 0.90–0.95. The dense hardened surface resists dust accumulation, supports regular wipe-down cleaning, does not shed particles or fibers, and meets cleanroom environmental management requirements, while efficiently absorbing full-spectrum reflected noise from equipment and airflow.
- Equipment room perimeter walls: Perforated acoustic panels with mineral wool backing are installed to assist in mid-low frequency equipment noise control, with smooth easy-clean faces suitable for laboratory hygiene management.
All materials meet AS/NZS fire safety standards and Australian occupational health acoustic requirements. Construction was carried out during scheduled facility shutdowns, with a total construction period of 38 days.
Project Results
Acceptance testing confirms ambient noise in main research zones drops by 40%, falling within acceptable limits for precision laboratory environments. Instrument measurement stability improves, and researcher acoustic fatigue decreases significantly. The smooth fiberglass ceiling and perforated wall panels meet cleanroom hygiene requirements and pass laboratory safety and environmental acceptance.
