Fiberglass Acoustic Ceiling + Perforated Wall Panels | Regional Airport Terminal, Dubai, UAE

airport terminal acoustics

Project Overview

This acoustic upgrade project covers the departure waiting hall, check-in area and baggage claim zone of a regional international airport terminal in Dubai, UAE, with a total area of 6,500 ㎡. The original high-ceiling terminal with stone finishes and large glass facades caused long reverberation tails and rapid noise accumulation. During peak travel hours, crowd conversation, boarding announcements and baggage equipment noise overlapped heavily, resulting in poor announcement clarity and poor passenger experience. The operator required durable, low-maintenance acoustic solutions meeting Middle East commercial building fire codes.

Solution Configuration

  • Full terminal ceiling: High-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles are fully laid, with an NRC rating of 0.90–0.95. Inherent Class A fire performance, excellent sag resistance and aging resistance, the interconnected porous structure efficiently absorbs full-spectrum reflected noise in large open spaces, maintaining stable long-term performance with minimal daily maintenance.
  • Partial wall zones: Perforated acoustic panels with mineral wool backing are arranged on key wall surfaces to optimize mid-low frequency resonance and further improve public announcement clarity.

All products meet EN 13501 Class A fire safety standards and are suitable for long-term operation in high-flow public transportation venues. Construction was completed in phases during off-peak travel hours, with a total construction period of 52 days.

Project Results

Post-completion testing shows overall background noise in the terminal drops by 38%, and public announcement intelligibility improves by 43% across all zones. Reverberation time reaches the recommended standard for transportation hub public spaces. The durable low-maintenance acoustic system adapts to 24/7 airport operation and passes civil aviation building fire and acoustic acceptance.
