Project Overview
This acoustic optimization project covers the public shopping floors, VIP consultation rooms and atrium lobby of a high-end luxury department store on Orchard Road, Singapore, with a total area of 4,200 ㎡. The original multi-level atrium space features polished marble floors, full-height glass railings and hard stone facades, resulting in long reverberation time and obvious sound accumulation during peak shopping hours. Customer service announcements were hard to hear clearly, and VIP fitting rooms lacked sufficient speech privacy. The management required acoustic solutions that match the premium retail aesthetic while complying with Singapore commercial building fire safety codes.
Solution Configuration
- Public shopping area walls: Full-height 100% recycled polyester fiber acoustic panels (NRC 0.85–0.95) are installed on feature walls and column surfaces. E0 grade formaldehyde-free, custom color-matched to the store’s interior palette, CNC precision cut to fit architectural details, absorbing mid-high frequency crowd chatter and reducing overall spatial reverberation.
- VIP consultation & fitting rooms: High-density fiberglass core fabric wrapped acoustic panels (NRC 0.85–1.0) are applied to full interior walls, reducing inter-room sound leakage and ensuring customer consultation privacy. Custom fabric texture and colour align with the store’s luxury visual identity.
All materials carry ASTM E84 Class A fire certification and meet Singapore Green Mark low VOC emission requirements. The project was constructed in phases during off-hours, with a total construction period of 36 days, no disruption to daily business operations.
Project Results
Post-completion testing shows peak-hour ambient noise in the main atrium drops by 35%, and reverberation time reaches the recommended standard for high-end commercial retail spaces. Public service announcement clarity improves significantly, and VIP room speech privacy fully meets customer confidentiality requirements. The acoustic system integrates seamlessly with the luxury retail aesthetic and passes building authority fire and environmental acceptance.
