Project Background
This 1,800 sq ft professional recording studio in downtown Toronto includes two tracking booths, a control room and a voice-over suite. The original enclosed concrete structure suffered from flutter echo, uneven frequency response and poor sound isolation between booths. Raw recordings carried noticeable room coloration, requiring heavy post-production correction. The project required professional-grade acoustic materials with precise absorption performance, low-VOC composition and a clean studio aesthetic.
Acoustic Solution
All booth and control room interior walls are lined with fabric wrapped acoustic panels from the Fabric Series. Built around high-density Owens Corning fiberglass core delivering NRC 0.85–1.0, the panels are wrapped in flame-retardant acoustic fabric that absorbs mid-high frequency reflections and eliminates flutter echo. Custom thickness gradients are applied to front and rear walls for targeted low-mid frequency tuning. Studio ceilings are fitted with high-density smooth fiberglass tiles from the Ceiling Series. The non-textured, non-fibrous surface controls overhead reflections and balances overall room frequency response. All materials use low-VOC adhesives suitable for enclosed studio environments.
Project Outcomes
- Inter-booth sound isolation improved by 42%
- Flutter echo fully eliminated, frequency response flattened across the audible range
- Post-production equalization workload reduced by approximately 35%
- All materials meet ASTM E84 Class A fire safety standards
