Project Challenge
This craft brewery taproom features an exposed-brick industrial interior with high vaulted ceilings and concrete floors. Peak evening hours bring heavy crowd chatter, glass clinking and background music that stacks into a loud, fatiguing acoustic environment. Patrons had to raise their voices to converse, shortening average stay time and reducing beverage sales per guest. The owner required acoustic treatment that preserved the raw, authentic industrial brewery aesthetic.
Solution
Cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels were installed across the full ceiling grid of the taproom. The natural spruce fiber-cement texture retains the rugged, industrial brewery character with no additional paint or finish required. With an NRC of 0.80–0.90, the open fiber structure absorbs scattered crowd noise and reduces overall reverberation across the high-ceiling space. The panels also carry Class A fire resistance and excellent moisture resistance, meeting commercial hospitality building codes.
Results
After the upgrade, peak-hour ambient noise dropped significantly. Guests can hold conversations at normal volume without straining, and average customer dwell time increased by 31%. The textured wood-wool ceiling reinforces the venue’s authentic brewery brand identity while improving comfort. The project successfully balances acoustic performance, visual style and fire safety for a high-traffic hospitality space.
