Project Overview
This acoustic optimization project covers general classrooms, science labs, multi-purpose halls and corridors of an international K-12 school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a total area of 6,200 ㎡. Original hard wall surfaces and high corridor ceilings caused excessive classroom reverberation and poor speech intelligibility. Teaching instructions were hard to follow for students, and inter-class sound leakage disrupted adjacent lessons. The school required eco-friendly, durable acoustic solutions meeting international school building standards.
Solution Configuration
- Classroom walls: 100% recycled polyester fiber acoustic panels (NRC 0.85–0.95) are installed on rear and side classroom walls. E0 grade formaldehyde-free, impact-resistant surfaces suitable for high-frequency student use, absorbing mid-high frequency speech noise and reducing inter-class sound transmission.
- Corridor & hall ceilings: High-density smooth fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles (NRC 0.90–0.95) are fully laid, controlling overhead reflections and reducing overall ambient noise across circulation spaces.
All materials meet EN 13501 Class A fire safety standards and comply with international school indoor air quality requirements. Construction was completed during school summer break, total construction period 45 days.
Project Results
Post-completion testing shows classroom reverberation time drops to 0.7–0.9s, meeting recommended standards for educational spaces. Speech intelligibility in classrooms improves by 42%, and inter-class sound leakage is significantly reduced. The acoustic system supports both general teaching and multi-purpose activity scenarios, and passes international school facility acceptance.
