Project Challenge
Church fellowship halls host a wide range of activities, from group meals and youth events to presentations and worship performances. The large, high-volume masonry space suffers from severe mid-low frequency reverberation. Speech sounds muddy, music lacks definition, and echoes make it difficult for attendees to follow presentations. Standard porous acoustic panels fail to address the stubborn low-frequency standing waves common in large church gathering spaces.

Solution
A combined system of grooved and perforated resonant acoustic panels was installed on the side and rear walls of the hall. Engineered on the Helmholtz resonance principle, the precision slot-and-hole structure specifically targets 250Hz–1000Hz mid-low frequency noise that porous materials cannot resolve. Paired with rear air cavities and mineral wool backing, the system achieves an overall NRC of 0.90 for balanced full-band sound absorption. The warm wood-veneer finish complements the traditional, welcoming church interior style.

Results
Post-renovation acoustic testing confirmed reverberation time within the optimal range for speech and live music. Speech intelligibility improved dramatically, and musical performances sound clear and well-defined without echo wash. The uniform sound field ensures consistent audio quality for all seating positions, supporting the full range of fellowship, educational and worship activities held in the space.
