Wood Wool Acoustic Panels for Meditation & Yoga Retreat Center Acoustic Design

This project was the acoustic design of a high-end meditation and yoga retreat center. The space adopted a natural minimalist style with bare concrete walls and high ceilings, resulting in obvious reverberation. During meditation and breathing classes, subtle ambient noise and echo easily disrupted practitioners’ focus, destroying the tranquil and immersive atmosphere required for mindfulness practice. The client required the acoustic treatment to retain the original natural, simple and Zen spatial temperament.

Cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels were selected as the main ceiling and partial wall acoustic material. The natural, rough wood-fiber texture of the panels highly matches the primitive, quiet and Zen style of the retreat center. No additional decorative finish is required, which maximizes the retention of the space’s natural healing atmosphere. The open fiber structure achieves an NRC of 0.80–0.90, which effectively absorbs subtle ambient noise, weakens indoor echo, and creates a quiet and immersive meditative sound environment.

In addition, wood wool panels have excellent moisture resistance and Class A fire resistance, adapting to the long-term operation needs of wellness spaces. After the project was completed, the overall noise level of the practice space decreased significantly, the sense of indoor quietness was greatly improved, and practitioners could enter a focused state more easily. The natural wood texture also enhances the spatial Zen feeling, realizing the perfect integration of acoustic function and spiritual atmosphere.
