Project Overview
This project delivers acoustic treatment for a 7,200 ㎡ food cold chain distribution center in Rotterdam, Netherlands, covering chilled sorting areas, packing zones, refrigeration equipment rooms and logistics corridors. Constant-running refrigeration units, conveyor belts and ventilation systems generate steady broadband noise. Long-term noise exposure affects frontline staff operational efficiency and compliance with local occupational health standards. The low-temperature, high-humidity environment requires acoustic materials with moisture resistance, condensation resistance and dimensional stability.
Solution Configuration
- Full facility ceiling: High-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles with an NRC rating of 0.90–0.95 are fully laid. The interconnected porous structure efficiently absorbs full-spectrum reflected noise from equipment and airflow, while the dense hardened surface resists moisture absorption and condensation, maintaining dimensional stability in cold high-humidity environments.
- High-noise equipment perimeters: Modular damping industrial sound barriers with a single-layer STC rating of up to 27dB are arranged around refrigeration units and compressor rooms, blocking direct noise propagation to staff work zones. The modular design supports repositioning as facility layout adjusts.
All materials meet EN 13501 / ASTM E84 Class A fire safety standards, are non-particulate and fiber-shedding free, complying with food handling facility hygiene requirements. The project was constructed during off-peak operation hours, construction period 32 days.
Project Results
Ambient noise in the main sorting area drops by an estimated 41%, falling within acceptable limits for local occupational health standards. Staff report less end-of-shift fatigue and clearer verbal communication during order picking. Order picking accuracy also shows measurable improvement thanks to reduced noise distraction.
