Project Overview
This university auditorium in Madrid covers 1,450 ㎡, with fixed seating for 680 people. It is used for academic lectures, conferences and small theatrical performances. The original hard concrete surfaces and large reflective walls created long reverberation, leading to muddy speech and uneven sound distribution. The design team required acoustic solutions that balance speech clarity and musical performance, while complying with EU fire safety standards.
Solution Configuration
Grooved acoustic panels were installed on side walls and rear walls of the auditorium. Fiberglass ceiling baffles were suspended above the seating area to control mid and high-frequency reflection. The front stage area retained partial reflective surfaces to support sound projection. All materials passed EN 13501-1 fire testing.
Project Result
Reverberation time was adjusted to 1.1s–1.3s. Speech intelligibility for lectures and presentations improved significantly. The venue can host both academic conferences and artistic performances without obvious acoustic defects. The texture of grooved acoustic panels matches the solemn architectural style of the university auditorium.
